a. Note:   N122 Information from Albert Kisserow's death certificate (Ramsey County, MN) indicated he had been in the country for 53 years, so family historian Ron Olsen approximates that he came to this country about 1877 ( at age 18 or so). (The 1910 U.S. Census lists an immigration date of 1880.) The occupation on the death certificate was listed as retired farmer. Lucille Kisserow Devalska was the informant for the certificate info. (The family farm was in Augusta, Wisconsin.) He is buried next to his wife in East Lawn Cemetery, Augusta, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
My Aunt Minerva DeValska Crossley had a touching story about him in response to my 1990’s family questionnaires (as follows):
“Grampa Kisserow lived with us off and on in St. Paul, Minn. I remember one day asking him if he wanted to read the paper. He was sitting on the steps out in back. He didn’t answer me. I asked again, he only mumbled. I went in and told Mother. (He’d had a stroke.) When he got home from hospital he could go up one stair and after awhile two stairs, etc until he did recover and was able to manage all the stairs. He worked as a night watchman for houses going up in our neighborhood. Enjoyed walking. Nice old fellow, we enjoyed him.
He was in same hospital as mother was when she had her goiter operation. He’d be wheeled in to see her every day. Mother came home. He died a few days after. Doctors wouldn’t let mother go to the funeral. She was only let to go to see him at undertakers for a brief stay; if she didn’t cry. Hard times and great loss.”
