Notes
a. Note:   N201 Even Johnson was the second husband of Martha (Marta) Mehus Enggren. She was his third wife. He was a North Dakota farmer and Martha worked on his Cass County, ND farm as a hired hand. He adopted and raised my grandmother Bertha Jeannette. He also had a daughter Oline (Olena) from a previous marriage and several other children.
A descendant, Duane Johnson prepared a book in 2004 called “Even Johnson History and Descendants” and I received a copy of Chapter 1 describing the early family history and Even and Oline’s imigration to America from Norway in 1867. They eventually settled in the Dakota Territories on the east bank of the Sheyenne River and Even became known as “The Sheyenne King” because he paid more real estate taxes than any other farmer in the area.
After Even married my great-grandmother Martha Mehus, he retired from farming and the couple lived in Moorhead, Minensota, with daughters Clara Oline and Bertha Jeannette. Even left a good portion of the farm to Martha when he died and it was still in the family as of 2007, in the name of my father Robert Follett and his sister Janice. My father supervised management of the farm, which was near Kindred in Cass County, ND.
His original Norwegian name was Even Johnsen Skjolaas or Even Johnson Sveum, changed to Johnson after coming to America. ____________
