  Per Louise Oftedal Wensel-Fernback... �Gustav Oftedal was my grandfather. He was a lawyer in Norway and married Octavia Berg of Arendal. After his brother Bishop Lars Oftedal defrocked himself, Gustav moved his family to Minnesota to assist his brother Sven at Augsburq and serve as a rural minister, riding to a �circuit of small towns� in his horse-drawn buggy. Some Sundays he performed services in four different towns with my father Sverre directing the choirs when he became a teenager. The children of Gustav and Octavia became my aunts and uncles. The last one of them died at age ninety-nine and a half. Laura was a Professor in the Department of Education at the University of Chicago for many years.�
