May 19, 1879 Moses Phillips aged 42 and a resident of Beaver Hill,Overton County Tennessee files a claim for a Invalid Pension. He enlistedJan. 25, 1864 in Company C 1st Tenn. Mtd. Infantry, commanded by RufusDowdy and was honorably discharged at Nashville, Tenn. on April 25, 1865.Moses Philips claims the following disability: disease of kidneys andliver and pain in left side from exposure and hardships while on a scoutin Smith, Putnam and Overton and Fentress Counties State of Tennessee inthe fall of 1864. I was treated in Post Hospitals at the followingplaces Carthage, Tenn., Granville, Tenn., and Livingston, Tenn. and inGeneral Hospital No. 14 at Nashville, Tenn. Since the service he hasresided at Overton, Tenn. On a later application for pension dated March4, 1907 Moses gives his date of birth as Nov. 14, 1836 in Overton County,Tennessee and states he has always lived in Overton County. On a formdated April 25, 1899 Moses Phillips states his wife's name is ArtemyPhillips and that her maiden name was Artemy Beaty. They were marriedJan. 12, 1861 at Boatland, Fentress Co., TN. by Sampson Solomon.
