Note: 8 to Annie and George York in Rose (Morgan Co.) TN. Father was a school teacher, farmer and sotre keeper. Mother was local postmaster and mother of six. Opal graduated from A. B. Wright Institute high school in 1928. She had already experienced working in Ohio before graduation and returned there after school. Ted (C.M.) Brooks and Opal married February 16, 1930. To this union was born three children, Jim, Betty (Wright) and Ella Dean (Pittman). The family was involved in grocery stores (47 years), Brooks Golf and Country Club and farming at Pine Haven. Mrs. Opal still enjoys her flowers and seeing the gardens that Jim makes at her home. She loves to walk around the yard and visit with old friends. Obituary in The Fentress Courier 16 Jan 2013 -- Mrs. Opal R. York Brooks, age 104, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 following a brief illness. Mrs. Brooks and her husband, C.M. (Ted) Brooks were owners and operators of Brooks Cash Store in Pine Haven for 47 years, and Brooks Golf and Country Club in Allardt. She and her husband were also charter members of the Jamestown Chapter 373, Order of the Eastern Star, and at age 101, Mrs. Brooks was recognized as the oldest living charter member of the organization. Mrs. Brooks was born May 4, 1908 in Morgan County, the daughter of George M. York and Annie Ellen Lynch York. She is survived by son Jim Brooks and wife Carolyn of Jamestown; daughters Betty J. Wright and Ella Dean Pittman & husband Ken, also of Jamestown; four grandchildren; David C. Wright, Derek Wright and wife Linda of Jamestown; Regena and husband Scott McConnell of Lexington, KY, Kendale and husband Gary Vosberg of Farmhamville, IA; eight great-grandchildren and five by marriage; seven great-great grandchildren and two by marriage; and special friend Clara Human. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, C.M. (Ted) Brooks; two sisters, Edith Jones and Ruby Galloway; three brothers, Omer, Goldman and Olin York; son-in-law J.L Wright, and daughter-in-law Lorene Brooks. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home with Bro. Thad Collier officiating, with interment in the Fentress Memorial Gardens in Jamestown. Pallbearers included great-grandsons Knox and Liam McConnel, nephews Gene York and H.W. Galloway, great-nephews Bobby Brooks and Darren Gunter; great-great-great nephew Cris Brooks, and friend G. Dan Smith. The Jennings Funeral Home of Jamestown was in charge of the services.
