Note: Have seen birth as 15 Feb 1762 in Nottingham, Chester Co, PA. Also have seen that she was a twin sister to James Beaty, which would make her birth 10 Feb 1752? Gerri Goodwin -- It is commonly accepted by many researchers in Fentress Co., TN that the twin sister referred to in James' Rev. War pension application was named Phoebe and that she married John McClellan. I have never found any documentation of that. I have seen a transcription of a letter written in 1902 from George Rutledge McClellan to Wm. R. McClellan in which Geo. speaks of the McClellan ancestry: "Abraham McClellan, a Scotch-Irishman, settled in this County (Sullivan, I presume) about 1780, during the Rev. War. He had three sons, John ____ David and Abraham. David married a Miss Hawkins and moved to Hopkinsville, KY. John married a Miss Beattie and moved to Overton Co., TN. Abraham, who was my father, married Miss Nancy Moss and lived and died (84 yrs. old) on the old McClellan farm." I have also seen in the work of another researcher that John McClellan and Phoebe Beaty were married in Cumberland Co., KY at her brother's house, unsourced.
