Note: Mrs. Martha Anna Lee Beaty Smith, Overton County, Tn. "Wilbur's Tales," by Wilbur C. Smith. Overton County News, 70 Years Ago in Overton County Tennessee, Sept. 9-15, 1933: Wilbur C. Smith of near Ozone, visited his grandparents, Mr.and Mrs. S. H. Smith, at Smith Chapel, Sunday. Wilbur Smith owns the Bible of his 2nd great grandfather, Jordan Smith. The Bible shows his name only as Jordan, but in the writings of Dick Mitchell in the Livingston Enterprise, he calls him William Jourdon. Obituary in The Overton County News 6 Oct 2010 -- Funeral services for Mr. Wilbur C. Smith, 90, of Independence Community of Overton County, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home, with Bro. James P. McDonald officiating. Burial was in Martin Cemetery. Mr. Smith died Monday, September 27, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a retired teacher with 34 years of service to Overton County schools. He was a member of Antioch Church of Christ, Overton County Retired Teachers Association, TEA, NEA, and Overton County Historical Society. Born May 7, 1920 in Overton County, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ida Mae (Martin) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Justine Hunley; 2 sisters, Aquilla Massey and Louetta Cobb; a half-brother, Ilon D. Smith; and a grandson, Greg Hunley. Survivors include his wife, Anna Lee Smith of Independence Community; a son and daughter-in-law, Merl and Leigh Smith of Livingston; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Marvena Rose of Alexandria, VA, and Winola and Dick Shelton of Bolivar, TN; a half-sister, Ina Dean England of Livingston; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Roy Hugh Melton, James Sells, Roger Harvey, Junior Conner, Jackie Conner, and Harold Hurd. Special care provided by Speck Funeral Home.
