  Sarah Beale proved the following: April 14, 1827, Elias Bowden lived on the waters of Mill Creek on the Cumberland Mountain. Entry 286. Soldier during the War of 1812. Described in service papers as "5'8 1/2 " tall, black eyes, dark hair, and dark complexion." He received a bounty of land in Illinois which he agreed to sell to Geroge R. Clark. Came to Fentress Co about 1818. He was sent to drive whites off Indian lands in east TN or Ga after 5 years in the army during the War of 1812. He later was sent to MO and went to the fort in St. Louis. He went up the Missouri River to make a treaty with the Indians and was discharged in 1818. He was hired to work for Bailey Owen and married his daughter Mary. (AR Hogue) Received a pension for service in the War of 1812 begun in November, 1871. Listed in the Overton Co Pension list of 1883. ( If this is the case, then I have his death date wrong. What do you have since you are a direct relative?)
