Daddy's name on his birth certificate is Joseph Albert Daigneault. But he always told me that when he was baptized he was named Joseph Albert Anthony Daigneault because in the Catholic Church you must have biblical names and Albert was not considered biblical. So the Anthony was added.
Daddy was 5' 9" tall, had dark brown hair when younger and a beautiful grey when older. He had dark brown eyes, but my eyes were even darker. He smoked and rarely ever drank anything stronger than a beer once in awhile on a hot summer afternoon.
He never attended the Catholic Church after he and mother were married in deference to mother and Grandma. But he believed in God as his personal savior and that is what mattered to me most as I was growing up.
I remember him telling me about the dairy farm he worked at when he was younger and the apples that he and some others stole one afternoon on their way home from one of their jaunts to the countryside.
But he was a loving father and very proud of his girls. He could be major stubborn and would argue at the drop of a hat with mother, but he could be gentle and kind in ways that men who are totally confident within themselves can be.
He loved to tell jokes and listen to them too. He'd often forget what he had told someone and would tell it to them again. Sometimes he would express his opinion or give out information that he thought he was right about and wouldn't be, but most of the time he was. He loved to read westerns like Zane Grey or Louis Lamourd, love camping and fishing. After I was married to Joe, we all had campers and we would go to the mountains together and camp over the weekend. It was great. Aunt Shirley would often come with mother and daddy as well, so it made a great weekend for all of us.
Daddy hurt his back really bad just after Linda was born and he had to quit driving truck and take a job that did not have any lifting with it. He became a security guard for Hughes Productions, Inc. This was the movie company owned by Howard Hughes and he usually was at an airport guarding one of the Hughes planes and after the Hughes' divorce, his job was to be part of the team that guarded Mrs. Hughes until her remarriage. He saw Mr. Hughes many times before he left Calif.
I remember the Christmas 1977, the day before he died, as the one Christmas I just couldn't bring myself to take pictures. Lloyd and I had just started going together and he was at the house in Yucaipa with us. Us including myself, Lloyd, Daddy, Mother, Wes, Yvonne and Peggy Parker, as close family friend that always came out to my house with Mom and Dad. He looked awful that day and now I am glad that I didn't take pictures as that would be my last memory of him always.
The next day he was gone.
