Find her & James E. Davis, marr. 1858, in 1860 census.
  !BIRTH: Sue How.
!DEATH: Cert. of death, Jefferson co. Ala., 1910 says her father was Mr. Andrews (our Annie's father was Anderson Jennings). No surviving spouse. Place of birth is Tenn. Age 73. Died of lobar pneumonia after a 14 day illness. She is buried in Elmwood Cem., sec. 3, plot 31. No headstone. An obit. appeared in the Birmingham Age Herald Dec. 8, 1910, p. 7, as well as the Birmingham News Dec. 7, 1910, p. 12, for a Mrs. Annie Cole. One says she's 73, the other 77. The Herald says she is survived by a son-in-law and other relatives in B'ham and she came here from Kentucky (our Annie is from TN). Ed Cole Sr. is also buried in Elmwood. The Nashville Banner, Dec. 6-11, 1910 was searched for her obit. None found.
The B'ham City Dir., 1901, p. 225, lists "Edward L. Cole, wks So Bell T & TCo, r 2112 humboldt ave". Also listed on the same page is "Annie Cole (wid J M), r 2112 Humboldt ave". Also listed at 2112 Humboldt is Emma Mandlebaum, widow of Wm. M.. Apparently Annie & Edward lived with Emma, whose husband had apparently died within a year or so, judging by the city directory entries. Nobody had ever mentioned to me the possibility that Annie lived in B'ham. I assumed she lived & died in TN. Considering the info above & the entries in the Nashville directories near that period, I conclude our Annie is the one buried in Elmwood cemetery, who died 6 Dec, 1910. All these Annies seem to be the same. No Annie or Edward Cole is listed in the 1910 B'ham City Dir..
After coming to the above conclusion, I came across what I've labeled "Davis Doc.", found maybe in the Mt. Juliet library. Don't know the author. It's typed. Says that Emma Davis, Ann's daughter, married a Smith & went to live in B'ham. Says Emma's mother died at her place. This further backs up the conclusion I came to in the preceding paragraph.
Curt & Ed/Dot Cole looked for probate records in B'ham dealing with Annie. Gen. Index Estates 1, p. 70 has Annie Cole inventory, bk. 4, p. 99. Will record bk. J, p. 214. Probate Minutes, bk. Q, p. 198. None are ours.
!LIFE: A document from unknown book, apparently court record, p. 363, has the following entry:
"We the widers agreed free holders appointed by the Wilson County Court to set apart a years support for Annie Davis widow of J E Davis decd after being duly sworn have proceeded to set apart three hundred & ten dollars as will be sufficient in our opinion to support her & her family one year from the death of her said husband.
 This 19th Sept. 1870."
1900 Nashville City Directory lists Annie Cole (Widow of J. M.), at 94 Peabody. (It also lists John A Ramsey at that address) The 1901 & 1903 dir. list her & Leroy together at 1226 N. Cherry. 1901 B'ham City Dir. lists Annie (Wid. J. M.) & Edward L. at same address. Neither is in the 1902 dir., but Annie appears again in the 1903 dir. at a different address from 1901. No entry for Annie in 1904-1907. An entry in 1911 reads Annie (Wid), then nothing more of an Annie. The 1911 entry is not likely our Annie.
The B'ham City Dir., 1901, p. 225, lists "Edward L. Cole, wks So Bell T & TCo, r 2112 humboldt ave". Also listed on the same page is "Annie Cole (wid J M), r 2112 Humboldt ave". Apparently Annie lived with Edward. Nobody had ever mentioned to me the possibility that Annie lived in B'ham. I assumed she lived & died in TN. But considering the info here & in her obit. it's almost certain this is her.
In Dec. 2002, Curt found from the 1901 B'ham City Dir. that Emma Mandlebaum is listed as owner(?) of the house that Annie & Edward are listed in.
!CENS: 1900 census for Nashville, TN, 22 June, e.d. 97, family 59, shows an Annie Cole, 62, living with her grandson(?) John A. Ramsey, 24, & his wife Ruby, 15. (Ruby is daughter of Emma Davis, Annie's daughter.) All & their parents born TN. Annie mother of 8 kids, 6 still living.
1880 census for Wilson co., TN lists Ann Cole, 41 with hubby J. M. Cole. She & her parents were b. TN. Her occupation is "keeping house."
1870 census for Wilson co., TN, Green Hill post office, family 94, shows Annie Davis, 33, with her kids but no husband. She's "keeping house", and her personal estate is valued at $600, although no real estate value is listed. Born TN. Census dated 20 Aug. Kids listed are; Emma, Margaret, Celia, Walter, Samuel.
Note:   !SEARCH: Note I have indicates that Annie is mentioned in Malinda Jennings' will dated 8 Apr.
