!BIRTH: Herbert's bible, in possesion of Louise & Lenora Tanner as of June, 2003, records Winnie's birth place as Greenville, Alabama.
!DEATH: She died at Ketona Nursing Home. Buried Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, Garden of Restoration, space 6, lot 91-A. Grave is about 2/3 of the way along the walk to the memorial, on the left. Brass marker. Curt has map.
Obit. appeared in the B'ham News 17 Oct., 1973, p. 67. Says Mrs. Catherine W Cole, 79, of B'ham, was native of Plateau. Survivors are Lewis Cole, Edward Cole, jr., both of Atlanta, Jim Cole, Leeds, B. B. Cole, B'ham, Mrs. James Potts, Montevallo, & Mrs. Sam Shehee, Kemp, TX.
Death certificate says she was widowed, 79 years old, born 5-23-1894. Born Plateau, Ala.. Death caused by uremia, which arose from pyelonephritis. Stayed in Jeff County Home for 6 months prior to death. Usual residence stated as 801 38th St. North, B'ham. Father's name is Fred Mason (actual name is Herbert Oscean Mason). Informant is Jim Coler (sic), Sr., Leeds. Burial in Jefferson Memorial.
!LIFE: I have a letter given to me by Jim Potts Jr. written by my Mom to Margaret Potts, Feb. '56. She mentions that she saw Ed's parents recently. Catherine was trimming her roses.
I remember visiting as a very young kid and playing with a treadle-operated sewing machine that was in their yard in B'ham. Also when she lived alone a few years before she died, she had a reel type mower that I used to cut her grass. When she died, she had an old record player that had the big horn shaped speaker.
She was a Methodist.
I looked thru the Greenville Register, May 1894 trying to find notice of birth of Catherine, but no births mentioned. Not in the Living Truth either.

1910 census lists Catherine W., 18, single, living in precinct 9, Mobile co., Ala. on Telegraph Rd. with parents & siblings. Born Ala.. No occupation.
1900 census for Butler co., Ala., Greenville, e.d 20, sh. 14, E.D. 20, sht. 14, family 317, lists Katie W., 6, b. May. 1894 in Ala..
