a. Note:   John and Susanna Powell's farm was next door to his parents, William S. and Jemima Wood Powell at the Fitzhugh Community near Dripping Springs. The Fitzhugh community is located astride the Hays-Travis County line and lies between Cedar Valley and the Pedernales River. Jemima's brother, William Wood, who was married to Susanna's sister, Samantha Lewis, also bought land nearby on March 29, 1884. John and Susanna's property now belongs to country and western singer, Willie Nelson.
  John died on the kitchen table during an emergency appendectomy.
