  9) Margret "O'Dell" Della Koch b. 8-13-1864 Holgate, Henry Co, OH d. 4-14-1951 Comstock, MI bur. New Evansport Cemetery Defiance Co, OH
Thomas Ellsworth Coy was born in Springfield Twp, Williams Co, OH on 8-3-1861. His early life was spent on his parent's farm. The farm bordered the northeast corner of Evansport.
Margret Della Koch was born in Holgate, OH on 8-13-1864. Not much is known about her family at this time. Her parents, Andrew Koch and Mary Kline, were born around 1840. Her parents arrived in Ohio sometime before her birth in 1864. The dates of her parent's deaths, or places of burial are unknown.
The couple was married in Stryker, OH on 5-18-1882. Thomas was 20 years old, and Margret was 17. The couple made their home in the town of Evansport and raised 8 children, 6 girls and 2 boys. The family owned a home that was on the southwest corner of Evansport. Thomas also owned some farmland that bordered this home in Evansport. Thomas may have done some farming, but he primarily made his living with a concrete business that he owned. The gravel pit for his business was located on his land. He was also the sexton for the Old and New Evansport Cemeteries (where 3 generations of his ancestors were buried).
The concrete business that Thomas Coy owned primarily built bridges in northwest Ohio, northeast Indiana, and southern Michigan. Mostly he replaced bridges that had been made of wood. The company also built foundations for houses and barns. In the early and mid 1800's most rural buildings were built on a foundation of treated rough timbers. After a period of time the foundation of wood would begin to rot, and would have to be replaced with concrete. Thomas and his crew would jack up a portion of the building, dig out the old wood, fill the space with a concrete slab, and lower the building on to the new foundation. They would then have to repeat the procedure until the entire foundation had been laid. All of this work had to be done under the existing building! In those days, since there was no motorized equipment to aid them, all of the work had to be done by hand.
Thomas Coy was a member of the I.O.O.F for over 25 years. The hat and sword of the lodge's marching uniform still exists. In his 68 years of life Thomas probably never traveled more than 75 miles from Evansport. There was a local joke at the time about an old farmer, it went "my son John, he's been everywhere. He's been to Archibold, Stryker, and Bryan already" (the joke was that none of the three towns were no more than 15 miles away).
Thomas was in poor health from 1924 until his death on 8-13-1929. He was buried in New Evansport Cemetery. He was remembered by his daughter-in-law Ferne (Trehearne) Coy as "jovial and witty." She also said "it was evident that his son Elmer was his favorite and that his daughters felt he was very strict with each of them as a father". His daughter Martha (Coy) Meyers described him as having "auburn" colored hair. He also was reportedly about 6' tall and of average weight.
After Thomas' death Margret married George Craig on 6-26-1931. She moved with her daughter Clela to a farm near Pittsford, Hillsdale Co, MI. She lived there until George died. After George's death she and Clela moved to Comstock, MI to be near her son Elmer Coy, and her daughter Martha (Coy) Meyers. She died there on 4-14-1951 at the age of 86 and was buried next to Thomas Coy in New Evansport Cemetery.
