Note: "The Death came again to Correctionville taking the life of Elijah Edwards, one of our oldest residents. He had been in failing health for nearly two years. Elijah Edwards, son of Jefferson and Louisa Edwards, was born 8 Aug. 1854, at Maquoketa, IA., died 30 July 1944, just 8 days before his 90th birthday. He married Lucinda Edwards, 12 Oct 1878, at Maquoketa, IA., and they traveled by covered wagon to Kansas where they lived one year. Then they moved to Correctionville vicinity and had resided here since. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, a loving companion throughout the years; five children, John, Clara, Lawrence, and Gene, of Correctionville, and Mrs. Fossie Pease, Niobrara, Neb., 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one brother, Philip Edwards, Wall, SD., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Wallace of Zion City, IL., Although not a member of any religious denomination he had always led a Christian life. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, 1 Aug. at 2:30 p.m. at the Wilson-Hull Funeral Home with Rev. S.L. Schuler officiating. Mr. Ed Robinson and Mrs. John Mahnke, accompanied by Mrs. Jess Frost at the piano sang the funeral bymns; "Does Jesus Care, Good Night and Good Morning, and Where We Never Grow Old." Pallbearers were his grandsons.Mrs. Elmer Stellman and Mrs. Elvin Heath cared for the flowers. Clarence Newton and William Allvin arranged the cars. Burial was in the Correctionville cemetery. 'A still white face of perfect peace, Untouched by passion, freed from pain, He who ordained that work should cease Took to him the ripened grain. O noble face ! Your beauty bears The glory that is wrung from pain. The high celestial beauty wears Of finished work, of ripened grain, Of human care you left no trace, No lightest trace of grief or pain, On Earth an empty form and face, In heaven stands the ripened grain,' Relatives who came from a distance to attend the funeral were; Mr. & Mrs. P.A. Edwards, and W.R. Edwards, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Koppelman of Osmond, NE., Mrs. James Thompson & Mrs. Flossie Pease, Niobrara, NE., & Lloyd Edwards, Sioux City."
