Notes
a. Note:   The Bible belonged to the noted Methodist Episcopal Reverend Alonzo Wood (1808-1874), and his wife Angeline Mallory (1810-1878)- contains a wealth of hand written family records, newspaper clippings, tintypes, and carte de viste photographs on these two familes This is an amazing family bible for the Wood and Mallory families. The Wood family was originally from Groton, Tompkins County, New York, the Mallory family hailed from Cortland, New York. Both died in Chesaning, Mich. Alonzo Wood was a prominent member of the church, having been appointed a deacon and elder by Bishop Elijah Hedding. The family records pages contain 2 marriage entries, 3 death entries, and birth information for Alonzo and Angeline, as well as their 10 children (even includes their middle names). In addition, found within the bible were some amazing additional items- there is a fascinating and detailed 13-page handwritten history of the Wood family, containg all types of interesting information (written circa 1900). Apparently, the front page is a letter written to a member of the Mallory family, indicating that they were to send a similar history of their side of the family- "I have written all the history of the Wood family and have you to write up the Mallory record...Ida's uncle is quite ill, has not been out in four months, has Bright's disease, is white as marble." The pages contain an enormous amount of family info, births, deaths, marraiges, illnesses, and other information. In addition, there is present an original 1874 newspaper obituary of Rev. Alonzo Wood, giving a long, detailed account of his life. It details his life in the Church (lising all the communities where he served), the numbers of people he "converted", and the serious injury he suffered in the 1840's- "On this charge, by the accidental falling back of a heavy pump which he was assisting a neighbor to lift from a well, he received a violent blow on his head, by which his physical and mental powers were so seriously impaired, that he suffered...at intervals in both these respects unto the close of his life." A wonderful biography, including details on his death. There is also a smaller newspaper clipping from 1878 with Angeline's obituary, revealing she was the eldest daughter of the prominent Judge Mallory, of Cortland, New York. Photographs- The family album at the rear of the bible contains 5 tintype photogaphs, and 13 carte de viste photographs, most are labled with names. Includes unbelievably rare images of: Angeline Wood (carte); Alonzo Wood (tintype); Moses Wood (carte); Jamie Locke (carte); Edward Wood (tintype); John Wood (carte); Charles Wood (titype); Daniel Wood (tintype); Lev Clark (carte); Maria Wood Clark (carte); William Wood and Wife (tintype); Grandmother Mallory (carte); Sarah Mallory (carte); William Mallory (carte); and 4 unidentified individuals (cartes). Some of these photographs are of the children of Alonzo and Angeline. seller is book-saver, ends 4/5/04 22:06PST
