Note:   Delphos Daily Herald, Delphos, Ohio February 2, 1903 "SUDDEN DEATH Jacob Saum Found Dead in Bed by His Wife Sunday morning, about 2 o'clock, Mrs Jacob Saum of South Jefferson street awoke and found her husband lying beside her cold in death. Blood poisoning is thought to have caused his death. When Mrs. Saum discovered him, his body was still warm, death probably occurring about one o'clock. Jacob Saum was born in Licking County, Ohio, April 9, 1830. Nov. 10, 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss C.A. Meyers by Rev. F.J. Mounts at Elida. No children were born to them. They moved to Delphos 19 years ago and Mr. Saum followed his trade, that of a carpenter to the time of his death. He has filled the office of Assessor of the Third Ward for about twelve years and before coming to Delphos held the same position in Middle Point. When only a school boy his knee cap on his right limb was injured which crippled him for life. the injured member gave him no pain until last Tuesday when inflammation set in. The foot grew worse and blood poisoning set in. His wife and three brothers, Gideon Saum, of Lima, Henry Saum living north of Middle Point, and Adam Saum, living in California, survive him. Mr. Saum was a member of no church but always led an upright, moral life and had the respect of the entire community. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon from the M.E. church at 2 p.m., the pastor, Rev. J.B. Ascham, officiating. Interment in the Middle Point cemetery."
