From CAMDEN ADVANCE-25 August 1911-Mrs. Ellen Caywood and Dan'l Spealman were called to Leonidas by the serious illness of their brother and his wife caused from eating poisoned berries." From CAMDEN ADVANCE-Friday, March 22, 1901 Michael Spealman, of Leonidas, spent Sunday with his sister and family, Mrs. James Caywood." from COLON EXPRESS, Thursday, April 18, 1918 LEONIDAS--Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Spealman of East Leroy were called here Monday to see his father Michael Spealman who is seriously ill. James McEwen, Edward Babcock and Michael Spealman are all seriously ill." COLON EXPRESS, May 2, 1918 OBITUARY-- Michael Rudolph Spealman was a son of David and Louise (Hahn) Spealman. He was born in Richland county, Ohio, on October 28, 1841, and died at his home in Leonidas April 24, 1918, aged 76 years, 5 months, and 26 days. In the original family there were five daughters and five sons of whom but three survive, Hannah Caywood of Mancelona, Mary Ellen Caywood of Camden and Daniel W. Spealman, also of Camden. He was married to Miss Julia Mowery in Montgomery, Mich., in 1862. In 1864 he joined the Union army and served until the end of the war. For over thirty years they have resided in Leonidas township and for fourteen years in the village. To them ten children were born, of whom six survive. One son, Harry, died in 1912, leaving a wife and three children. Those surviving are, Mrs. Mary E. Troy and Clyde C. of Leonidas; Arthur O. of Seattle, Wash.; Jirah E. of Athens; Charles W. of Bay View, Idaho; Lawrence G. of Dayton, O. For fifty-three years he and his wife have been inseparable. There are fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Spealman was a man of sterling qualities, reliable and kind, a universal favorite. The funeral occurred at the Leonidas Congregational church, conducted by Rev. Dawe. Interment in the Leonidas cemetery. The out of town relatives who attended the funeral Saturday were: Mr. and Mrs. Jirah Spealman and Leo and Gerald of Athens; Lawrence Spealman of Dayton, O; Mr. Ellen Caywood, Daniel Spealman, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Spealman and David Bower and wife of Camden; Mrs. Fleet Langdon of Marion, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Troy and Mrs. Leah Spealman and children of Mendon; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mowery, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Austin and Mrs. Bell Houghtaling of Three Rivers; Mr. and Mrs. Hoag of Ohio and Mr. and Mrs. Strunk of Colon."
