Note:   from THE WATERVLIET RECORD, Watervliet, Michigan, Friday, September 29, 1939, page 1 Fred Wood Dies At His Home In North Watervliet +++++++++++++++ Heart Attack Cause Death Saturday. funeral Services Were Held at St. Joseph's Church Tuesday Fred Wood, 72, was found dead at his home two miles north of Watervliet about 1:30 o'clock Saturday of a heart attack. Mr. Wood was alone at home when stricken and was found on the back porch by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Donald Hunt, upon their return from a shopping trip to Watervliet. Although in ill health the past two years, death was unexpected. He had been feeling unusually well Saturday morning but death occurred shortly after the wife and daughter had left probably about 12:30. Dr. Gunn was called. The deceased was born in New York state, and came to Battle Creek, when a young boy. There 42 years he was married to Miss Emma Dumser, who survives. For the past 35 years they have lived on farms north of Watervliet, and previously has also lived near Riverside. Surviving is the widow, and four children, Fred Jr., Mrs. Victor Mainwaring and Mrs. Donald Hunt, all living northeast of Watervliet and Richard at home. There are 13 grandchildren, two brothers, Merton Wood, of Battle Creek and Bert Wood of Augusta are also left. A son and daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's church in Watervliet Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, the Rev. Fr. J.F. Murphy officiating. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery, Watervliet.
