a. Note:   1840 Federal Census of Michigan shows Theodore Hulce, a 20-30 year old wife and a 0-5 year old son living in Calhoun County, Eckford Township. His birth year was 1813 per 1850 census. He and his family appear in the 1850 census of Athens Twp., Calhoun Co., Michigan with the last name spelled "Hultz". All of the children listed as having been born in Michigan. Went to California during Gold Rush of 1849. Died in California of Cholera at the age of 40. He left behind his wife and 5 children. From the tract book of original purchases in Calhoun Co, MI Theodore Hulce of Allegany, NY purchased the E. 1/2 of the W 1/2 (80 acres) T 3 S R 5 W of Calhoun Co, MI. This is in Eckford Township on 13 June 1835.
