Notes
a. Note:   Bernice was born in 1904 to Lafayette and Malinda (Sterling) Armstrong. She grew up in Middle Point, Ohio. Against her father's wishes, she eloped with Otis Coon, another Middle Point resident. Otis was a transit agent at the time, probably with the railroad. Otis and Bernice opened a restaurant in Middle Point and Otis was a trained barber. They had three sons, Otis, Jr., John and Clyde.
The couple separated and then divorced. Bernice went to work at the Kennedy Kits manufacturing plant in Van Wert, Ohio. She worked for thirty years. She was a life-long Democrat with a lively interest in politics and world affairs.
She was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren. She made killer cookies, wonderful homemade noodles and great fried chicken. She was a lifelong football fan.
She sent all three of her sons off to war, Otis to the European theater, John and Clyde to the Pacific. All returned safely.
Bernice died in 1995, after suffering from strokes and diabetes.
She is buried at the King's Cemetary in Middle Point, Ohio but she remains in our hearts. Tonya Coon Brooks
