Notes
a. Note:   From book "County of Williams, Ohio" by Goodspeed and Blanchard, 1982 977.1113 "R.F. Conkey, son of Ezekiel and Elizabeth (Haughey) Conkey, was born in Medina County, Ohio, August 19, 1845, and is one of five children; his father was a farmer. Our subject remained at home with his parents until he reached manhood, and was then married, October 25, 1866 to Flora Kindig, of Wayne County, Ohio. He lived and worked at farming in Medina county until 1869, when he came to Williams County and settled in Northwest Township. In 1854, his father came to this county and purchased 320 acres of land; he died November 14, 1868, and it was on this land our subject settled. He now has 140 acres, about ninety of which are well improved. Mr. and Mrs. Conkey have had five children, four of whom are now living-William A., born September 25, 1870; Cynthia E., born June 20, 1873; Elizabeth L., born July 20, 1876; and Charles F., born February 8, 1881. Mr. Conkey is a member of Camden Lodge, No. 312, I.O.O.F. He is a man of good education and business qualities, and his success in life is well assured." Obituary in possession of Eva Shearer in 1978 from unknown newspaper "The subject of this memorial, R.F. Conkey, was born in Medina County, Ohio, August 19, 1845. Died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. James Daniels, of Cooney, O., June 27, 1909 - aged 63 years, 10 months, and 8 days. On Oct. 25, 1866 he was united in marriage with Flora M. Kindig of Wayne County, Ohio. This union resulted in the birth of six children, three sons and three daughters, one son and one daughter having preceded him to the grave. In the year 1869, he and his devoted wife came to Northwest Township, Williams County, Ohio and settled on the farm now owned by his son, "Art." Here they toiled together in clearing and improving the farm, enduring the privations incident to pioneer life fifty years ago. July 15, 1889 he was left a widower by the death of his faithful wife, leaving the mother-less children to his care, and right well did he foster their interests. The deceased was an honest and upright citizen, a kind and obliging neighbor and an indulgent father. He was an Odd Fellow, and a worthy member of the Northwest Lodge 722, Cooney, Ohio. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 30, 1909 from the C.U. Church at Northwest Center, conducted by Northwest Lodge, 722, I.O.O.F. A large number of the membership were present to bear their part in the solemn rites of the Order. The sermon was preached by Rev. George W. Long assisted by a choir of singers. The deceased leaves two sons, two daughters, on son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, one brother, and a wide circle of friends who will miss the presence of his kindly face. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in the sudden death of their father and brother." "RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT: Whereas, it has pleased the Supreme Architect of the universe to remove from our midst our late brother, Frank Conkey, and Whereas, the intimate relations long held by our deceased brother with the members of Northwest I.O.O.F. lodge No. 722, render it proper that we should place on record our appreciation of his service as an Odd Fellow, and his merits as a man. Therefore be it Resolved, That while we bow with humble submission to the will of the most high we do not the less mourn for our brother who has been called from his labor to rest. Resolved, That in the death of Frank Conkey, this lodge loses a brother who was always active and zealous in his work as an Odd Fellow, ever ready to succor the needy and distressed of the fraternity; prompt to advance the interests of the order, devoted to its welfare and prosperity; one who was wise in counsel and fearless in action, an honest and upright man whose virtues endeared him not only to his brethren of the Order but to all his fellow citizens, Resolved, that this lodge tender its heartfelt sympathy to the family and relatives of our deceased brother in this their sad affliction. Resolved, That these resolutions be entered upon the minutes of this lodge and that a copy of them be sent to the family of our, deceased brother. W.T. Lanning, R.A. Lougheed, J.W. Norriek" From Bryan Democrat, Bryan, Ohio, July 2, 1909, page 2, column 1 "The people of this immediate vicinity were very much surprised to learn of the death of Mr. Frank Conkey, which occurred about about midnight last Sunday night after an illness of only few hours." US Census 1870, Northwest Twp., Williams, OH Robert F. Conkey, W,M, 24, Farmer, 3300 R.E. owned, 250 personal estate, b. Ohio Flora M., 25, F, W, Keeping house, b. Ohio
