Notes
a. Note:   "Charles F. Conkey was born in Northwest Township, Williams Co., Ohio, Feb. 8, 1881, and died at the home of his sister, Mrs. James Daniels at Cooney, Ohio, Oct. 28, 1928, aged 47 years, 8 months, and 20 days. He was the son of Robert F. and Flora Kindig Conkey. Charles had been afflicted since his fourteenth year, yet he met life bravely and made the best of his handicap. For over twenty years he was the obliging and courteous operator at the Camden Telephone Exchange, at Cooney. During this time his faithfulness and kindness won him many friends as was evidenced by the large crowd of neighbors who came to express their respect and love at the funeral services. His was such a courageous life, as puts to shame any who are vastly more fortunate. The frailty of his body was scarcely realized, until an attack of tonsillitis consumed his energies in just a few hours. All that kindly care and medical skill could do was of little avail. In his departure, he leaves to mourn their loss, two sisters and one brother, namely, Mrs. James Daniels and Mrs. Carl Lesnet and W.A. Conkey, together with other relatives and a multitude of friends. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniels, at Cooney, Ohio, Tuesday, Nov. 30. Rev. Charles D. Castle, D.D., of Montpelier, Ohio officiating. Interment at the Billingstown cemetery." "CHARLES CONKEY, aged 47 years,of Cooney, Ohio, died early Sunday morning of tonsillitis from which he had suffered since Thursday, although he had been in very poor health the past six weeks. He had been badly crippled since he was fourteen years of age. For over twenty years he has been a faithful operator at the Cooney telephone office and had a shot of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon with burial at Billingstown, Ohio." "DEATH SUDDEN The death of Charles F. Conkey, aged 47 years, occurred suddenly at the home of he and his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. James Daniels at Cooney, Sunday morning at 4 o'clock, from an attack of tonsillitis with which he had been suffering only a few days. Funeral services were conducted from the home by Dr. C.D. Castle and interment made at Billingstown cemetery. Deceased had always been a resident of Cooney and for the past twenty-two years had been telephone operator there, during which time he was in poor health and sick much of the time. His many friends throughout the county mourn his passing.
