a. Note:   Extract from " The Story of the Sherman Brigade " by Wilbur F. Hinman, Lt. Colonel - Sixty-Fifth Regiment of the Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantry. Published by the author in Alliance, Ohio - 1897 "Levi Shearer enlisted on Nov. 4, 1861 as a private for a 3 year term and was also mustered into Company H of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. On April 22, 1863, Levi was appointed a Corporal in Company H. During the battle of Chickamauga, Ga., he was captured and taken prisoner. Levi died in a prison in Richmond, Virginia on Nov. 12, 1864."
