Notes
a. Note:   es)around 1830-1875 and Garland, County Arkansas, 1875-1900. My great grandmother, Susan Jane "Jennie" Box, was born 1861 or 1863 in Jackson, Miss. Her mother was Nancy Lee Harrison, born 1834, in Geo. or Ala.? Father, James Box, born 1829-32 in Ala or Miss. James died in the Civil War or shortly thereafter, according to family oral history. Jennie is said to have had Indian blood, presumably, Cherokee. Her siblings were James R., 1856, George W., 1859,Virginia, birth date unknown. Jennie Box moved to Hot Springs Ark. and married H.Clay Adkins, 1883, who died around 1890 and later married Wyman Armstrong, my great grandfather. Jennie and her mother, Nancy, ran a boarding house and restaurant in Hot Springs in the 1880s-1890s? Jennie's children were: Dottie Adkins, Birdy Adkins, Sidney Adkins, Cass Adkins, Clay Adkins, Ernest Armstrong, Mable Armstrong, Jennie Armstrong, Wyman Otis Armstrong. Susan Jane "Jennie" and here second husband, Wyman Armstrong, are burried in Franklin County, Iowa near rural Dumont, they died 1940 and 1950, respectively. Any information on this line of the Box family would be greatly appreciated.
1920 census appears to list her race as (American) Indian, as well as that of her children.
