Note: Killed in field in front of Uncle Frank Wilson's House located on Hwy 65 in Rockingham Co. N. C by runaway horses. It was thought that the horses were spooked and he was knocked off a wheat drill and hit his head on a rock. Me, his Grandson was born the same year and was named Thomas Wesley, however the name was not meant to be named after Grandpa Sharp. This fact was realized later. Grandpa Sharp was always called Bud. SHARPE, THOMAS WESLEY "Bud" June 4, 1883-October 13, 1949 Bud's parents were John Henry Sharpe and Teresa Carter Sharpe. His brother was Cleveland Clement, and his sisters were Mae Sharpe Scott, Annie Beatrice Sharpe Horseford, Gladys Sharpe Wilson, and Sallie Sharpe Overby., On June 23, 1911, he married Emma Cora Peay. They had two sons: Roy and Rayford, and four daughters: Mildred Southard, Bronna Booker, and Billie Jean Miller. He was a member of New Lebanon Church. His-daughter, Billie Jean Miller, remembers, "Papa was a very interesting, witty man. He did not have much education. His explanation for his lack of book learning was that he had to keep wood in the stove so that all of the other kids could keep warm. At that time education was not that important to success in life. He farmed all of his life. He would tell us kids, 'Come on; let's go to the field and work like whiteheads and get through by dinner., When he could step on the shadow of his head, it was time to go to the house for dinner. On Thursday, October 13,1949, he was sowing grain when the horses ran away and killed him. He loved the horses; this was probably the reason that he did not try to get off the drill. He was a hard-working man who loved his children.,, After his death, his funeral was conducted by Rev. Sorrell on October 15, 1949. His favorite song, "Life Is Like a Mountain Railroad" was part of the service.
