Haddock, Cherrie Ann Haddock family and Cleo Franklin Haddock are buried near to Granville and Elizabeth Haddock. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Granville Filmore married Elizabeth Jane (Eliza) Blankenship on Nov. 14, 1897, by E. J. Ragers, J.P.. Marriage License issued Nov. 13, 1897 by Geo. W. Young, Clerk of County Court, Independence County, Arkansas, Marriage Book HB, Pg. 285. Note: Names are misspelled on Marriage License: Granville is " Grandon " (age 22) & Elizabeth is "Lizia" (age 17). Actual age of Elizabeth at Marriage Date: 18 yrs. 1 mon. 26 days. Actual age of Granville at Marriage Date: 22 yrs. 8 mon. 6 days. Elizabeth Jane always spoke his name as Grandon and he called her Eliza or Liza. My Great-Grandfather, Granville was a tried and true 'bigot'; he disliked Republicans, Negroes, Mexicans, other foreigners and 'white trash'. There were 'white' children down the block (north?) that Granville would not let his grand and great grandchildren associate. He and Eliza had a great fear of Tornados and this was passed on to my grandmother Lena Elizabeth; there was always a storm cellar available to Granville. My grandmother Lena Elizabeth insisted upon a storm cellar where ever she lived. I remember a local store that was approximate. 2 blocks West(?) and approximate, 1 1/2 blocks North(?) of Granville's home; where you could buy candy. If you went there twice in one day, they would not sell you any candy on the second visit; they must have recognized every child's face. Note: Granville had a dispute with his brother John Estes about 1910 and did not speak to or about him until shortly before Granville's death in 1958; when John Estes visited Granville, in Overton, Rusk County, Texas. By: Donna Haddock Cooper. 3323 Rennick, Saint Joseph, Missouri. 64507. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 'The Boss', was definitely the Head of the House. This is my Great-Grandfather 'Pap', my mothers grandfather. When I knew and visited them he and GGMother lived in Overton, Rusk County, Texas. Information from my Mother (Opal Gladys (Walls) Scarborough), et. al. Granville and Elizabeth moved to Overton, Rusk County, Texas sometime around 1935 - 36 from Cooper, Delta County, Texas. He worked as a night watchman for a Lumber Yard in Overton, TX. When I and My family visited My Greatgrandparents in Overton, Rusk County, Texas; My GGrandfather was either employed at a local Grocery Market or was endeavoring in his Garden. My brother and I always seemed to have 'Chiggers' [from visiting other relatives] and we always had a bath at My GGrandparents home with a diluted 'LYSOL' & water solution in a tub {and a 'LYSOL' Soap} in My GGrandfathers storage 'shed', East(?) of the Main House; I can still remember the smell of the 'LYSOL'. I certainly liked the 'Cherry' Tomato's my GGrandfather raised in his garden [which was West(?) of the Main House]; I ate a lot of them, directly off the vine. My GGrandmother always made us Fresh Brewed Tea {From a TEAPOT} when we would arrive for a visit. My GGrandfather liked fried 'catfish', and 'okra'. My GGrandfather always had 'onions' drying in the 'shed' east of his house, every time I remember visiting; He certainly did not appreciate my Brother and I 'prowling' in the 'shed', but my Brother and I always looked forward to our visits in Overton, Texas. My Mother often told tales of the 'trickery' and 'bedevilment' of the the times of my Ggrandparents. "Once; a 'female' came to the door where they lived in Pecan Gap asking for help and for Granville to go with 'her' to help a friend in need. Granville was ready to go; until he noticed the 'female's' clothing had changed. There was a pant's leg hanging down below the dress line. He confronted the 'female' and it was a friendly 'prankster' trying to lure him outside for some 'hellraising' or 'shenanigans'. [Note: The true intent was never revealed by my Mother; she probably did not know.] Haddock's and Blankenship's must have been very good friends or close neighbors in Arkansas. {Note: Arkie B. Haddock married 1st. William J. Blankenship (Son of Thomas J. Blankenship and Tennessee Coates), Married 2nd. John M. Salmon, Abt. 1911.} ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Granville age at Marriage 21, Eliza. age at marriage 17.
