Note: Celia Charity Scarborough. b. Jan 27, 1887, Hunt County, Texas; d. Nov 27, 1972, Colorado City, Mitchell County, Texas. Married: Albert Andrew Jackson Scarborough, Aug 13, 1905, Hunt County, Texas. Note: Middle name Charity is remembered by Opal Gladys (Walls) Scarborough. Note: My Grandmother witnessed the first automobiles, the inventions of Edison and Marconi, etc., the age of electricity, to a Man landing on the Moon. My grandmother never smoked cigarettes nor dipped "snuff " to my knowledge. A very good 'cook'. I loved to eat at my grandmother and grandfather's home. My Grandmother had a 2 [outer] leaf porcelain 'dinner' table in their home in Loraine, Texas. Sharon {My Wife} found a similar porcelain table at an antique auction (in Colorado City, Mitchell County, Texas) and had to have it for our Kitchen. Mother of Otha Andrew Scarborough. b. Mar 31, 1909. d. Sep 1, 1993. Things and Happenings I Remember: My Grandmother had a milk pitcher with a Native Indian 'swastika' in white and blue, I know that milk tasted better from that pitcher, than store bought ( it was fresh from the cow and it was warm & then cooled in a deep cellar / sometimes ice ). (Note: The Indian 'swastika' was the mirror image of the German/Nazi 'swastika'. My Grandmother explained, to me, the difference; one 'swastika' pointed to the left {German} and one 'swastika' pointed to the right{Indian}, the milk pitcher 'swastika' pointed to the right.) Reference: The pitcher is now [09 - 28 - 2003] in the possession of Wanda Faye (Payne) Hayslip. Remembered Things: Home Made Ice Cream, Fishing, Fourth of July, Visits with Aunts, Uncles and Cousins at Grandpa and Grandma's house on the farm south of Loraine and in Loraine, Texas. My Grandmother never ever allowed a Blade of GRASS in her Front Yard; The front yard {from Spring until Fall} was always full of bedded Flowers, all types / kinds; none of the Flowers were greater than a height of 12 - 18 inches, Varied Colors and Smells, always very 'catching' to the eye. My Grandfather/Grandmother loved to play the Domino Game ' 42 ' and were excellent players, My Father and I were not able to consistently 'win' against them until I was in my very early 20 's. Either one of them knew what was in our Domino Hand 's after the first two rounds. As I became more expert, my Father and I could usually end up in a tie with my Grandparents or not loose too badly and occasionally win a set. My Grandmother and Grandfather always had a bowl of candy on their living room 'Coffee Table' for Great -Grand Children. My children always tended to ease off the Living Room Couch to snatch a piece of candy, hoping that Myself or Sharon would not stop them from 'gorging themselves' on G. Grandma 's candy. I knew better than to grab a piece, unless offered; the candy was for children. I, Sharon and my children were visiting Thomas and Avanelle McKeand in Brownsville, Texas at the time of My Grandmothers Death ( Avanelle was not doing well Health Wise ) and were unable to attend her Funeral. The Eleventh United States Census. Census of 1890 mostly destroyed by fire and water damage in 1921, Department of Commerce, Washinton, D.C.
