  From: "Ron and Kathy"
To: "Arvin & Evelyn Thomason", "Ann & Frank Thomason", "Albert Scarborough" Subject: 1880 Arkansas, Boone County, Carrolton Township, Census Date: Mon, 1 Mar 2004
Hi there to all! Hope this finds each of you healthy and happy! Thought I would mention something that you all may already be aware of... in Carrolton Township, Boone County, Arkansas in 1880, Enumeration District 16, there is a Thomason family living next door to a Youngblood family. Then the fifth farm over has a Youngblood family. Also, there are several other Thomason's in the vicinity.
In checking the 1870 census for Long Creek Township, Boone County, Arkansas, there are many Thomason's and Youngblood's living next to each other. In fact, out of 37 farms in Long Creek, there are 10 Youngblood farms, and 7 Thomason farms. In fact on page 4, there is a Thomason family with a 1 year old daughter named Matilda E.
So I wonder if these are our Thomason's and Youngblood's, and they lived and knew each other in Arkansas. I wonder when Miles (Matilda's father supposedly born in Georgia) moved to Hunt County, Texas. There is a Miles Youngblood (born 1886, 43 years old) in the 1930 census for Flintsville District, Franklin County, Georgia, which probably has nothing to do with Matilda's father, Miles, but what I think is interesting is that on the third farm from that young Miles, and his family (his father, W. J. Youngblood, is also living with him ) is a family named Segers, and his cousin C. L. Thomason is living there. Next door to them is A. B. Youngblood and his family.
So what do you all think... could Boone County Arkansas be the place? I would love to hear if you think I am going down the wrong path, or whether it could be the right road? Any thoughts would be appreciated! love, Kathy ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cemetery Inquiry.

Albert/John: I am aware of Luck or Thomason Cemetery off SH 36 E. side of Dry Creek.....I am not sure about the name...The E.D. Lux Sr. Family still owns part of the original Ephriam Lux Land Grant (Abstract) to the North of this Cem...I have talked with current generation of Lux Family they are not aware of naming of Luck-Thomason; you solved 1/2 the name.... ("It's possible this may have originally been Lux instead of Luck?"?? There is a small family plot on Lux property-3 graves-Ephriam, Ephriam Jr.,?.... Albert thanks for this information.

  Albert,
I am going to share your email with a friend, John Byrd, who has the experience and knowledge to try to answer your question; he has worked extensively on documenting the locations and origins of the county cemeteries as part of the Hunt County Historical Commission. I hope that will help. Good wishes with your efforts.

  Question?
My great-grandfather, George Washington Thomason, is buried in a Cemetery that my family and that of his brother always believed and refered to as Thomason Cemetery.
In looking at Cemetery records at Findafrave.com and The Hunt County USGenweb cemeteries that the name used for the burials is "Luck Cemetery".
My grandfather and his brother owned the land where the cemetery is located from before 1890 to sometime in the 1930's.
Do have any idea where the name "Luck Cemetery" may have originated?
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albert Scarborough

Albert: I went to Central Appraisal, Hunt co. Clerk Deeds, Grvl. Library..Monday.
  1) HCCAD: I got property Id for ownership surrounding the Cemetery, line map of property, and aerial photo showing cem. 2) Deeds: I was able to find deed from GW to JR Thomason you referenced; I appears by description to be land that incl. Cem.. Could not find prior deed for GW on same? 3) Library: Hunt Co. Cemeteries Volumes do not include either Thomason or Lucks. (This appears to be one they missed in 1970's...We need to create "Cem.Survey" we can put in history files at Greenville NE Tx History/Genal. Library. While there I looked at microfilm tax records, Found GW but with different properties, Found JR but no property listed...these are rather tedious... 4) Cemetery: I stopped and measured boundry fences, took 5 shots required (You probably have better pics; since there is significant growth, even though we have had only a few inches of rain. 5) Mr.Watson: stopped for visit; he had limited knowledge, his wife belives J.R. is buried at Dry Creek Cemetery.... Do you have any information on unmarked (wood cross graves?) I assume those by children of JW are some of his children.? Will try to put this together and send such soon. John

Note: Co.Clerks office is mailing such to Annette@THC; She will record THC records; send you certificate for Thomason Family Cemetery.
Also; if you ever find someone who knows why Thomason Cem was also called "Luck Cem." please let me know...That's how we find in some of the databases, I'm going to reference that in files so future generations can cross reference such. JBCbDCiD

  Quinlan, Texas.
Quinlan is on State Highway 34 four miles west of Lake Tawakoni and twelve miles south of Greenville in south central Hunt County. The site was first known as Roberts, after Texas governor O. M. Roberts , who on October 26, 1882, sold 100 acres of land in southern Hunt County to the Texas Central Railroad. This land, "situated between the South and Caddo forks on the Sabine River," served as the location of the new town of Roberts, to which the Northeastern Branch of the Texas Central built. The line was reorganized as the Texas Midland Railroad in 1886 by Hetty GreenCuD C/uD, a bondholder in the defunct railroad, and the new road extended its track northward from Roberts through Greenville to Paris by 1894. In 1892 Edward H. R. Green, Hetty Green's son and president of the Texas Midland, abandoned Roberts as a depot and established a new depot town, Quinlan, 1a miles north of the older community. The new community took its name from George Austin Quinlan, vice president and general manager of the Houston and Texas Central Railway. Settlers moved quickly into Quinlan. Some of the earliest, including John M. Cook and R. K. Epperson, moved their businesses from Roberts. The settlement received a post office in 1894, and by 1900 its population had reached 362. This growth, no doubt induced by the presence of the railroad, continued through the first quarter of the twentieth century. In 1904 463 persons lived in Quinlan. The number rose to 537 by 1910 and 600 by 1914, when Quinlan had twenty businesses, including a bank and a weekly newspaper. In 1925 this "retail trade center for southern Hunt, northern Kaufman and Van Zandt counties" had an elementary school, a high school, and thirty-five businesses and managed a cotton harvest of some 5,000 bales. In 1933 Quinlan had 512 residents and thirty businesses; in 1952 the population of 599 supported twenty-five businesses; in 1964 the community had 621 persons and twenty-two businesses. After the mid-1960s Quinlan grew considerably, largely due to its proximity to Lake Tawakoni. It had a population of 900 in 1976 and 1,002 in 1988, when it had fifty-one businesses. In 1990 the population was 1,360. The population was 1,370 in 2000. Bibliography: W. Walworth Harrison, History of Greenville and Hunt County,CiD C/iDTexas. (Waco: Texian, 1976).
