a. Note:   Grandma was kind of short, and sort of "jiggly" just like a grandma should be. I remember her best when she was busy dusting, or gardening or even painting, sort of whistling under her breath. She never whistled a recognizable tune, just sort of an unconscious whistling. I remember so clearly how she would laugh when tickled by something Grandpa said. It was a sort of throaty, tittering laugh that radiated through her whole body and made me laugh too. Grandma always wore the same type of solid, black "granny" shoes. One time, when I was about 6, I went shopping with her to buy new shoes. When the salesman brought her out a new pair, I said "But Grandma, those are the same shoes!" I think I remember her best out in the garden where she loved most to work. Her hands were always busy doing something, even when she rested, she would sew on something or snap beans--anything that kept the fingers moving.-- Just a few memories of Grandma at the Fair Oaks ranch.
