A History of the Town of Peru Maine, P. 62 - $100.00 was raised in 1936 and this amount was paid to the Demerritt cemetery Association to fence Demerritt cemetery; Frank Demerritt, one of Peru's energetic and prosperous farmers, is one of the public benefactors. He set apart a nice large plot on his farm for a public cemetery. Since his gift to the Town of Peru it has been enlarged and taken over by a cemetery Association.
