Title: Telephone interview with George Campion (3921 Cambridge, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119)
Publication: September 20, 1996, by Cafi Fischer Cohen, notes in possession of Cafi Fischer Cohen, 375 Plancha Way, Arroyo Grande, California 93420
Text: George CAMPION's birth certificate says his mother was Gertrude PRYOR, age 22, and that he was born February 5, 1926, at 337 Cypress Avenue, Bronx, New York. George says that Graziano CAMPIONE, his grandfather, had three children, Ben (George's father), Frances, and Nick. At his death, Graziano CAMPIONE owned four pieces of property, all of which went to Frances and Nick. Ben had moved to California several years earlier. Ben was cheated out of his share of inheritance by Nick and Frances. Ben (George's father) was in trouble with gangsters in NYC. According to George, Ben picked up a body from the mob (to whom the family owned a favor) to dispose of in the East River. Ben moved to California (and moved frequently thereafter) to avoid having the mob catch up with him. George CAMPION describes his father Ben as "very good looking -- he looked like Rudolph Valentino and could get any girl he wanted. Mostly he held sales-oriented jobs. He couldn't take rejection." According to George, anytime Ben thought the mob was "catching up with him" in California, they moved. Ben CAMPION worked for Taix Bakery in Los Angeles when he first came to California.

Title: Interview with Dolores Campion Fischer (851 Visalia, Pismo Beach, California 93449)
Publication: by Cafi Fischer Cohen, November 3, 2002
Text: 3 November 2002 Interview with Dolores Campion Fischer, 851 Visalia, Pismo Beach, California Interviewer: Cafi Fischer Cohen (b. 1950), Arroyo Grande, California, daughter of Dolores Campion Fischer Subject: Ben CAMPION marriages Regarding Benedict CAMPION(E) (1901-1975), father of Dolores CAMPION (b. 1928), Dolores reports the following. After Ben Campion's first wife Ida Gertrude Pryor died in 1930, he remarried several times. The first marriage was to Irene or Ida [Last Name Unknown] in New York. Irene/Ida accompanied Ben and his two children, Dolores and George CAMPION. to California about 1934, leaving to return to New York in either 1935 or 1936. In August of 1937, Ben married Clorene JONES, who had probably been married previously to a man named Harvey [Last Name Unknown]. Clorene was approximately 14-16 years older than George CAMPION, Dolores' brother, who was born in February, 1926. This would fix Clorene's birthdate around 1910-1912. In the summer of 1946, Ben and Clorene CAMPION moved to Galice (sp?), a small town outside of Grants Pass, Oregon, on the Rogue River. In late 1949, Ben and Clorene CAMPION separated. Clorene returned to her roots in Modesto, California, later remarried a man named Joe in Modesto, and probably married one additional time (perhaps in Sacramento) after that. Clorene was in her eighties when she died, probably in Sacramento, probably 1982-1990. Dolores' principal source of this information was Juanita Allen (wife of John Allen), Sacramento residents. Juanita Allen was the daughter of Clorene Jones' sister. After his marriage to Clorene, Ben CAMPION married Ruth [Last Name Unknown], probably in the summer or fall of 1951 in Los Angeles. Ben and Ruth were divorced before 1954. About 1957 Ben CAMPION married Ida DIAMOND (nee BERNSTEIN). Ben met Ida when he employed her to work for one of his businesses. After Ida's husband Joe DIAMOND died in the mid-1950's, Ida married Ben. Ida and Ben were married until his death in 1975.
