Text: �b�Chester Cohen Air Force Colonel�/b� Chester Cohen of San Rafael, who served with the United Nations, died after a long illness Monday, June 29, 1992. Mr. Cohen, 89, died at Rafael Convalescent Hospital. His military career began during World War II when he served as an operation and maintenance officer for water and sewage installations in South America, Africa, India, and the Caribbean. He later retired and went to work for the World Health Organization of the United Nations. Before going to Lima, Peru, with the United Nations, he worked for the Marin County Health Department as a sanitary engineer. He traveled widely. Born in Houston, Texas, he received his bachelor's degree in civil Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. He earned his master's at Harvard University. Upon returning to the Bay Area, he was employed as a civil engineer by the 4th Air Force at Hamilton Field. He was an active member of the Retired Officers Association and the Masonic Lodge in San Rafael. Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bernice Cohen of San Rafael; two sons, Howard Cohen of Campbell and Terrell Cohen of Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Melvin D. Cohen of San Antonio, Texas; and four grandchildren. Burial will be private. His family prefers memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association of Marin , 4340 Redwood, Suite 106, San Rafael. Arrangements are by Keaton's Mortuary, San Rafael.
