In 1871 the family are at "Common", Kirk Langley. Sarah is 12 and aScholar. Father James is 41 and an Agricultural Labourer, Mother,Eliza is 34. Mary is 10, Elizabeth 6 and James 5 and born in KirkLangley.
In 1881 she appears to have been a Servant at 73 Uttoxeter New Road,Derby the home of Stephen HUMBLE, a Civil Mining Engineer originallyfrom Newcastle on Tyne, and his family. Sarah is 22.
In 1891 the HUMBLE family has moved to Vale Lodge, Uxbridge Road,Acton, London taking Sarah with them. She is now the 33 yr old Cook.Interestingly, they have a 14 yr old daughter called Kathleen M. thename Sarah gave her own daughter 2 years later. IS IT POSSIBLE THATSTEPHEN HUMBLE WAS MY GRANDMOTHERS' FATHER???
In 1901 Census Sarah is 41 and living in Egginton with her Mother,Eliza, aged 64 and now a widow, and her Daughter, Kathleen Mary who is8.
1911 - Egginton, Derbyshire:- Eliza Handford 74yrs Widow, Old Age Pensioner born Egginton, Derbs Sarah Handford 52yrs Daughter, single, a Domestic Servant bornEgginton, Derbs
Sarah died in 1944 probably at 65 Fifth Avenue, Kidsgrove the home ofKathleen and Arthur GREEN, her daughter and son-in-law. (6b 97Newcastle under Lyme refers). The evidence suggests that Sarah nevermarried.
