Note: If memory serves me right, the Training College Building stillexiststoday at the bottom of Ditchling Road near the centre ofBrighton. It is in an area known as Preston which has now beenabsorbed into Brighton. Ditchling Road does eventually lead toDitchling Beacon but that is about8 to 10 miles away.I have just looked in Timothy Carder's 'Encyclopedia ofBrighton' which states that the College was built in 1854 in theparish of Preston as the Diocesan Training College for SchoolMistresses - the college had originally opened in 1842 in BlackLion Street, Brighton. Women were trained there for 2 yearsbefore they were appointed at Church of England NationalSchools. The College continued there until 1939 before thebuilding was requisitioned by the Royal Engineers.Information from Suzanne Moscrop, Swindon, Wilts
