From letter by Aileen Weems, granddaughter (12/98): Grandma was blind by the time I saw her when I was 17 (1934) -- she started losing her sight I think in her 20's. She had the most beautiful brown eyes and was so sweet. They said that in her own home a person would not suspect that she was blind. In fact, she would go to her closet and say she was going to wear her blue dress and could reach in and pick it out.
