Notes
a. Note:   He was born on his father's farm in Hopkins Township, Whiteside County, IL and died on the same farm 1-11-1930. He married at the age of 19 to Ida Baker and was later divorced. He then worked on the Rock Island Railroad in Peoria, IL. where he married his second wife. They moved to Milledgeville, IL, where he worked in a hardware store, specializing in putting up windmills. At the same time he was the leader of the band, night policeman, captain of the hose company. In 1902 he moved to Rock Falls, IL, where he worked as a molder in an iron foundry and then started farming again, moving to Lisbon, ND in 1904. He became an expert on farm machinery for the Acme Harvester Co., travelling to every town in the Dakotas and Minnesota. He started farming on his home farm in Illinois until his death. He was known wherever he lived for his playing the violin for dances. (His violin is now in the hands of this genealogist.)
