  Family records (letter of commendation) mention Joseph being part of the Company that escorted General Eisenhower during his visit to the Headquarters Command, Mediterranean Base Section, in March of 1944. Military Orders indicate he was promoted from 1st Lieutenant to Captain in 1945. He was present in Wiesbaden, Germany, in May of 1945.
