Notes
a. Note:   1810 March 1, ROBERT CALDWELL and SARAH RHODES were md. at the house of Jacob BISHOP in Knox Co., TN, by Beriah Frazier, a Justice of the Peace. --Affidavit of Eunice RHODES, age 80, of Bull Run P.O., Knox Co., TN, no date (ca. 1876); Eunice was 14 years of age when she witnessed ROBERT and SARAH's marriage. "Married at the house of Jacob BISHOP in Knox Co., TN." Does this imply that Sarah's parents were deceased? (Jacob BISHOP md. Anne GAMMON, Dec. 19, 1797, Knox Co., TN; Jacob BISHOP not indexed in extant Knox Co. censuses; Anne BISHOP, p.366, 1830 Knox Co., TN, census.) Eunice Rhodes, any spelling, is not indexed in Knox Co., TN, in 1850, 1860, or 1870.
Sarah's father's identity is unknown; she was obviously related in some way to John RHODES "of North Carolina" (father of Nicholas RHODES, her son-in-law and possible nephew) but the exact relationship has not been discovered. In his Sept. 9, 1876, affidavit in SARAH's behalf, Nicholas RHODES stated "that he is 53 years of age," "that he is now and has been for fifty years last past well acquainted with . . . SARAH CALDWELL," that his "Father was also a Soldier in the war of 1812," and "has in his boyhood & early days frequently & many times heard his Father & said ROBT CALDWELL talk over their life & experiences while in Said war of 1812."
1871 May 13, SARAH CALDWELL, age 82 years 7 months, a resident of Webster Co., MO, 11 miles west of Marshfield, applied for a pension on ROBERT's War of 1812 service, Widow's Pension Claim No. 3393. Act of Feb. 14, 1871. 1874 July 29, SARAH's claim was rejected. 1876, Eunice RHODES of Bull Run P.O., Knox Co., TN, and Nicholas RHODES and Dr. N.H. Hampton, both of Marshfield, Webster Co., MO, gave affidavits in SARAH's behalf. 1877 July 7, SARAH RHODES CALDWELL died. 1878 April 23, Certificate for Widows' Pension No. 6959 issued at the rate of $8.00 per month.
Robert and Sarah are buried in the family cemetery near Strafford.
