a. Note:   Thomas Powell is said to have been born on the Nanteos Estate in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, Wales. At about the age of 12, Thomas converted to Quakerism and was disowned by his father and sent to England to apprentice. Thomas came to New York with his Tutor shortly thereafter. He became a prominent member of Long Island Society, purchased land in the Westbury(now Nassau) area and was the founder of Bethpage, L.I., N.Y.. He was the first white man to build a house in the area. For a more detailed history of Thomas Powell, much information may be found in the book by Mary Powell Bunker, called "Long Island Genealogies" written about 1895. Another source of information is the book called "History and Genealogies of the Powell Family in America".
