Note: This is the Reverend James Keith who is the Reverend that married several people in our Byram line. Notes from Joel B. Keith--How did Keiths arrive in Plymouth colony? The Rev. James Keith arrived in Bridgewater in 1662, to be their first minister. The truth is that I have never found the records of the ship he came on. I don't know if anyone has, as ship's passenger lists were not mandated until the 1800s, although the Mayflower and following ships passenger lists have survived. More research is indeed necessary. I do know however that James was a student of divinity at Marischal College in Aberdeen, Scotland. He befriended a prominent New England minister named Increase Mather, who was in Scotland at the time, and Increase Mather took James to America and introduced him to the town of Bridgewater in 1662. The town gave James a proprietor's share of the land in the town, and built him a half saltbox house on the land for him, as he agreed to be their minister.
