a. Note:   My 5th great-granduncle. - - - - - RLB 7 - August 2011 - I have not been able to determine what "Will" means in several entries in this file. Usually "Will" in a genealogy record means the date it was written, but in this file most of the dates are after the person has died.

ID: I00296 Name: Edward Lucas II 1 2 3 4 Sex: M Birth: 24 DEC 1710 in Bucks Co., PA 5 Death: 3 OCT 1777 in Berkeley Co., VA (formerly Jefferson Co.) 5 Burial: 1777 Family Farm Cemetery, Shepardstown, WV Will: 21 OCT 1777 Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., Will Book 1, p.112 Note: Edward Lucas (2), son of Edward and Bridget, married Mary Darke, who was not Quaker. The marriage was not approved of and Edward was disowned for marrying out of unity. Edward and Mary moved to northern Virginia where Edward had purchased land from Lord Fairfax. The farm was located at Pack Horse Ford, about three miles from the settlement of Mecklenberg (Shepherdstown) on the road to Charles Town. It contained three springs on what was later called 'Lucas Run' or 'Rattlesnake Run.' Before a stockade could be erected, indians burned the first log cabin. However, the family had sought shelter at a nearby fort and were thus spared.
Edward Lucas died at his Coldspring Farm October 3, 1777. (Notes from Shera Pryne-Thompson, edited by James B. Lindsley 09 April 1999)
