And mother's maiden name as COULTON. Occupation as farmhand, living at Tohungs Rd, Ohakune. Also employed by father. His school qualifications are as Std 5. The date on the recruitment form is the 18 Nov 1940. He agreed to be inoculated and to serve anywhere. His preference of arm of service was with the Mounted Rifles. Religon was Methodist. The form was signed by Major Hugh Johnston MC at Taihape. The History Sheet states that he was with the Q.A.M.R. Attested 18 Nov 1940 and entered camp 30 Jun 1941. The reason of discharge was told to the Res of the NZ (Non Mob) Defence Force 30 Aug 1941. A certificate of discharge was not required. (The reason of discharge is beleived to be illness of father, and his need to be home to manage the farm). His discription:Born 6 Jul 1919 at Eketahuna; Age 21 yrs, 135 days; Height 5'8''; Complexion Fair; Eyes blue; Hair Brn; Religon Methodist; Single and a farmhand. Enlisted at Taihape and father's address Box 29, Ohakune. Record of service:Into Foxton Camp 3 Jun 1941; Hawera Camp 30 Jun 1941; Foxton Camp 30 Aug 1941; transferred to the Reserve of the Defence Force effected from 30 Aug 1941; Wanganui and S/O/S? to area 6 9 Mar 1942. File purged 1947. MARRIAGE:age 28, occ farmhand, bachelor, born Eketahuna, res, both present and usual Tohunga Rd, Ohakune Minister: James Campbell HOWAT - Presbyterian witnesses:E.V. RANGER - farm manager (brother to groom) A.F. TIMNEY - married (sister to bride) BIOGRAPHY:Managed family sheep/beef farm at Tohunga Rd, Ohakune. Then about 1974 moved to Ohingaiti to work as a shepherd. Health deterioated and forced him to retire. He and his wife moved to Mangakino, with yougest daughter, until his illness (Altzheimer Disease) become worse. After being sent to Tokanui by mistake, he moved into a resthome in Rotorua. When his wife moved to Westport, she had Nelson transferred to the O'Conor Resthome, and later died in the Westport hospital. DEATH:cremated at Nelson, ashes at Ohakune at parents grave Altzhiemer disease - 15 years
