Family Dies Leandro A. Serrano, 79, fourth generation descendant of one of San Diego's oldest Spanish families died yesterday in a hospital. He lived at 1136 Fresno St. and had been an employe of the San Diego Public Works Department for many years. Survivors are a son, Alfred; a brother, Joseph; two sisters, Miss Nevies Serrano and Mrs. Rose Fournier, all of San Diego, and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Leandro Serrano's great-great-grandfather, Francisco Serrano, served as major domo and coproral of the guard at Mission San Diego de Alcala. His great-grandfather, Jose Leandro Serrano, took part in the Battle of San Pasqual. His grandfather, Jose Antonio DeJesus Serrano, was owner of a ranch at Pauma, remembered as the location of the Massacre of December, 1846. Luis Serrano, his father, who lived during his youth as the Pauma ranch, was considered an authority on the history of Southern California. He died at 88 in 1933. The mother of the deceased, the late Mrs. Sarafina Stewart Serrano, was the daughter of Capt. Jack Stewart, whose adventures were related in Dana's book, "Two Years Before the Mast." Her parrents were married here 79 years ago by Father Ubach, the "Father Gaspara" in Helen Hunt Jackson's novel, "Ramona."
