a. Note:   William raised his nephews Orrin and Thomas after the death of their parents. Their grandfather, James Robb, had guardianship of the boys from when their parents died in 1855 until his death in 1872, but not possession. William and his sister, Mary did the actual raising, and William was finally appointed their guardian March 31, 1873 (Jefferson Co., Probate Court Common Pleas Index). At the time of his death in 1889 he was a bachelor, living with his nephew Thomas McNutt.
