Daniel Luper is listed in the 1790 Federal Census in the Salisbury District of Rowan County. This area later became Iredell County and still later became Alexander County. He was listed as head of a family, 16 or over; with a son under 16 and 2 females. This probably means he was a young married man with a young son and daughter. In a land where money was scarce, he seemed to have had cash for in a land deed dated 25th day of Sep.1791, he bought 201 acres of land from David Woodson "in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds of good and lawful money".The deed names only the Samuel William's line as the north boundary, the other markers being stakes and trees. This deed is registered in the Iredell County Court House (Deed BookB, page 579, date 1797). On the top of page 579 is the conclusion of another deed by David Woodson and Daniel Looper signed as a witness. He signed it by his mark (X) so apparently he could not write. On the 29th day of Oct., 1794 "in consideration of the sum of seventy pounds hard money" he bought 151 acres of land from Humphry Roberts. "Acertain piece or parcel of land lying in County of Iredell on the bridge branch of the waters of Rockey Creek on the east side of Coles old survey___to a blackoak near a _?__ branch___stake on the side of the mountain". Again on the 3rd day of March 1804, Daniel Looper was buying land, from John Gwaltney. He bought 261 acres for four hundred dollars, described as being on the north side of Rockey Creek. Another deed, dated the same day was"in consideration of the sum of fifty". It was for only 48 acres. The last deed, dated the 16th day of Aug. 1808, was made to the children of Daniel Looper by Joseph Sharpe "in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to him in hand paid by the said Daniel Looper in his life time"and was for 612 acres lying on the head branches of Snow Creek and on the branches of South Yadkin__to the old line on the highest point of the round top mountain__ and exclusive of the common burying ground 12 poles square beginning at a large post oak and marked west, south east and north which is reserved by the said Joseph as a burying ground to all future generations. The deeds dated Mar.03,1804 were proven in open court and ordered to be registered Mar.25,1808. As Daniel was alive at this time, he must have died between Mar.25,1808 and Aug.16,1808. He had a total of 1273 acres. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------
