Note: NI11730 Irene was born & raised in Toronto, Ont. & very close to her half brothers, especially Joe. She enlisted in the Canadian Army, while stationed in Kingston she met & married Mervin Smith, who was also in the Army. They had to get permission from the army to get married on Feb. 17, 1943; & on June 10, 1943, Mervin was shipped overseas for WWII. She would not see him again until Dec. 1945. Her son, Bob was born on Feb. 4, 1944 & a telegram was sent off to inform "Daddy" of his birth.
