Notes
a. Note:   Samuel appears to have been named for both of his grandfathers: Samuel Taylor and Onslow Peters.
Samuel worked oil fields in Eastern Oklahoma. Cleties, his son, refused to talk about him, and Lilah Peters, Cleties' wife, remarked that he was mean and grouchy but that she didn't know him very well.
Freda Peters reports that Quinton hated his father and was glad when he died. Quinton had to give him shots and empty the slop jar, all this after his father took all the family money. Cecil apparently told Freda that Samuel "did a little bit of everything, including drugs, but he never went with other women."
Samuel was left handed, and taught Quinton to write with his left hand too, he was apparently proud of Quinton and his intelligence. Quinton told Freda that all of the kids were afraid of their father. She believes that Samuel had a rough life, and probably had little to laugh or smile about.
  Patrick Peters:
Dad told me that he drove his father to the Mayo clinic in Rochester MN and there were several times either on the way up or the way back that Dad thought he had died in the car.
Also from Patrick: Sam was the rig master at an oil lease on Governor Marlin's land and he predicted to his boss that they would hit oil on a certain day. There was talk that there was no oil there and people started taking bets on whether they would hit on the day Sam predicted. The Governor was there on that day and they hit oil. Dad told me that's how he got his first car because the Governor gave Sam a bonus.
Birdean Peters Carter: (letter to Shirley Peters Johnson)
.... you asked me about my dad (Papa). You must remember all of his jobs he was the Big boss of lot of men some as I remember was big, rough, dumb, kind and agreable but to get work done he would do a lot of hollering. In those days the men would go to work at sunrise and work till dark and on...so when he came home he would bring it home and holler a while but never never did he ever hit my mother. My mother, like your dad was a sweet, kind and a loving person any one doing unkind to her was a mean person, but one thing I know I had four brothers and not a one was mean to their wives and you would think if he was bad one of them would be like him. I do know we were all scared of him he was so large, but I remember him putting me by his side at the table to feed me. I was a finickey eater he rocked us to sleep at night, he also sang to us a lot--but my Mom, in rating between 1 and 10, my Mom was a 20-Cleaties probably knew things I didn't. Our mother was a extra good person and should have been treated that way-we loved her.
