Notes
a. Note:   NI43 Christean was known to her grandchildren as "little grandmother" she was 4 '9'' tall. Mike remembers that his" little bitty grandmother lived in a little bitty house with a big green lawn across the street from Aunt Birdean." ( We saw this house on our trip to OK in October of 2001, it is currently boarded up and appears to be used for storage, and it is, indeed, very small.)
Freda Peters (wife of Quinten Peters): Christean was a very precious little woman who was very intelligent, but not well educated. Her mother died when she was about 11 years old; the younger children were adopted by other families, [note: this is incorrect, according to Milburn Spencer son of Christene's brother Charles Christopher kept the family together] but Christean and one or two of her siblings were raised by her father. The family was very poor. Christean once told Freda that she never really had a doll, just a doll head.
When she went into labor with her first child, Samuel left to get the doctor, but Christean knew it was too late for the doctor, and went out in the yard to stop Samuel. She gave birth on the woodpile, all by herself.
Christean didn't have an easy time of it after Samuel died. When he returned from his travels, Quinton bought his mother a house that had a separate small house/ apartment. At first, Christean lived in the house and rented out the apartment, but later she moved to the apartment and rented out the house. (this must be the house that Mike remembers.)
Birdean Peters Carter: (Letter to Shirley Peters Johnson)
My mother, like your dad was a sweet, kind and a loving person any one doing unkind to her was a mean person.... in rating between 1 and 10, my Mom was a 20... Our mother was a extra good person and should have been treated that way-we loved her.
Note: while the obit for Christene states that she was born in Nebraska, on the 1910 census she reported that she was born in Missouri, then in 1920 she is listed as born in Nebraska......from the census it appears that the family moved from KS to MO to OK.

 Born: 26 Feb 1886

State (Year) SSN issued: Oklahoma (1965 )
res. notes: to Ok after 1900 (family is in MO on 1900 census); this part of the history is somewhat confusing because Freda was given conflicting information by Christene.
mother died bef 1900, not on 1900 census.
Freda: family back to MO (St. Joseph) Christina may have stayed with her sister Della Houston in the Arapaho area. It is also possible that the family came to OK to live near Della. She told Freda that she remembered walking alongside the covered wagon on the way to OK.
Christopher married again, 2nd wife died and Christopher returned to OK; it appears that Christopher married in MO in 1898, but this wife is not on the 1900 census.
 md Samuel 1903
brother Charles Spencer in Tulsa in 1966, Charles' son Milburn was initial contact with this branch of the family, Jan 2004.
