Shewman Dies In 75th Year [photo] OMAR CURTIS SHEWMAN Omar Curtis Shewman, St. Petersburg hotelman, died at 6:15 p.m. yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jason Zurflieh, 3130 Fifth Avenue north, at the age of 75. Mr. Shewman cane here 26 years ago from Knoxville, Pa. He was the owner and operator of the Campbell hotel for many years. He was a former member of the St. Petersburg Hotelmen's Association. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Zurflieh, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Campbell Shewman; one son, John E. Shewman; and two grandsons, Tomy and Jay Zurflieh, all of St. Petersburg. Rhodes' will announce services. * * * [Also from the SP Times?] Omar Curtis Shewman, Local Hotel Owner, Dies Omar Curtis Shewman, 74, St. Petersburg hotel proprietor for more than a quarter-century, died Thursday evening within half an hour of having a heart attack. The seizure came when he and Mrs. Shewman were entertaining callers at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Jason Zurflieh, 3130 Fifth Avenue North. The Shewmans were keeping the Zurflieh home while there daughter vacationed at Lake Sheridan, Pa. Mr. Shewman, born in Watkins Glen, N. Y., was reared in Beaver Dam, N. Y. He was married in 1897 to Mary Campbell of Knoxvile, Pa., in Knoxville. The couple spent the early years of their marriage there.~ Mr. Shewman worked for the New York Central Railroad for 25 years. He retired from railroading in 1916, and for the ensuing five years the couple lived in Rochester, N. Y., operating a rooming house. In 1923 they came to St. Petersburg to take over operation of the Campbell Hotel, formerly owned by Mrs. Shewman's father, Thomas Campbell. The couple owned and managed the 35-room Campbell Hotel at 219 Third Avenue North for about 25 years. Two years ago Mr. Shewman retired from active proprietorship and they leased the hotel to Mr. and Mrs. James Archer of Washington, D. C., relinquishing management but retaining ownership. The couple had tree children, two of whom survive. One son, Thomas C. Shewman, died March 29 of this year at the age of 42. Mr. Shewman is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter Mrs. Jason Zurflieh, and John E. Shewman, both of St. Petersburg. Two grandchildren, Tom and Jay Zurflieh, also survive. Mr. Shewman held memberships in the Yacht Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Hotelmens Association. Arrangement will be announced by John S.
