Karl Smith, of St. Louis, who has been convalescing here at the home of her mother, Mrs. Harriet Hatfield, after an operation at a Philadelphia hospital, returned home Wednesday. She was accompanied as far as Williamsport by Mrs. Hatfield and Raymond R. Hatfield. * * * Wellsboro Gazette of Dec 5,m 1940, p2 has: RAYMOND HATFIELD Tioga, former Tioga County Treasurer, who died Monday morning at the home of his wife's parents. Mr. and Mrs, Samuel Benson. Mr. Hatfield had been ill for some time following an operation. Mr. Hatfield was born February 21, 1898 at Rutland, the son of William and Harriet Updyke Hatfield. He had resided in Tioga for over 20 years where he was highly esteemed. Mr. Hatfield served as County Treasurer from 1928 to 1932 and prior to his illness had been working as clerk in the county Commissioners' office at Wellsboro. Mr. Hatfield is the second former county treasurer to have expired; over the week-end, the first. Mrs. Mary Edwards of Wellsboro, was fatally injured in an automobile accident, Sunday. On June 15, 1225 [sic], Mr. Hatfield married Miss Vendetta Benson, who survives him together with two children. Jean and Richard; his mother, Mrs. Harriet Hatfield of Tioga; two brothers, John, Philadelphia; and Waldo, St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. E. Karl Smith, St. Louis, and Mrs. Arley L. Niles, of Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Benson. Rev. Orey M. Bolt, pastor of the Tioga Baptist church will officiate, assisted by Rev. Orey E.
